Locally, animation is a $120-million industry that has created over 6,000 jobs across over 50 companies all over the country and is still growing. To celebrate the Filipino animator’s identity, ingenuity, and imagination, iACADEMY and the Animation Council of the Philippines (ACPI) present the 8th Philippine animation festival, Animahenasyon.
Animahenasyon brings together both local and foreign animators to share their work. Apart from a showcase of animated features and exhibitions, Animahenasyon will also have plenary sessions from industry experts. On the 25th of November, Ahn Jae-hoon from South Korea will talk about “The Korean Animation Scene: A Director’s Perspective”. On the 26th, Adam Ham of Global Creative Media Agency and Jeffrey Linis of ACM SIGGRAPH will discuss the content production in a session titled, “Conferences and Content Markets: Building a Competitive Edge.” On the final day, the 28th of November, European Film Award winner Jacques-Rémy Girerd from France will talk about his experiences in “Finding a Place for Animation in the Cinema”, while Yoshiya Ayugai will hold a session on “How to Pitch to Cartoon Network”.
The finalists of this year’s Animahenasyon competition will have their works shown during the course of the festival. iACADEMY’s own students produced “Hamster Quest”, and has gotten their work into the final list in the Student Category of the competition. Winners will be awarded on Friday, the 28th of November 2015.
The program of the festival also includes special screenings of animated films from France, Poland, Germany, Japan, South Korea, Italy, Norway, and the USA, which will be opened free to the public.
"We've always sought to expose our students to as much of the industry as possible. This festival is an amazing opportunity for them to learn more about their craft and also how animation has changed and will change in the future. What's more is that the presentations are all from the best of the best from around the world." Says iACADEMY’s Creative Director, Dane Romley, who himself was a former animator for The Simpson’s TV show and movie.
Animahenasyon will run from November 25 to 28 2014, hosted at the iACADEMY Plaza at 342 Sen. Gil Puyat Ave. Tickets are available at the Animation Council of the Philippines, Inc. Secretariat. For inquiries and reservations, please call (02) 211 9277 or email philippines.animation@gmail.
