iACADEMY SHS Recognized at the FIRST Global Challenge in Mexico

The looming Philippine energy crisis propelled iACADEMY Senior High School Game Changers to represent the country at the 2018 FIRST Global Challenge held at the Arena Ciudad de Mexico from August 16-18, 2018.

The FIRST Global Challenge, with this year’s theme Energy Impact, invited each country to send a team to compete in Robotics Olympics. The Philippine Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) recommended iACADEMY Game Changers to cement the country's knowledge in Robotics.

Alleviating Global Problems, the Game Changer Way

UNISON, the team name, is a start-up initiative based in the Philippines. They are a social enterprise that launches and manages innovative projects geared towards the Sustainable Development Goals. The CEO and co-founder, Earlrich Nerre R. Ibon, and its creative director, Jouvann S. Oliva, partnered with the CEO of Blue Entity Technologies, Paul Vincent Magbojos, for the entirety of the competition. Blue Entity is an IT tech-based startup that offers a wide array of services utilizing automation and deep learning. UNISON and Blue Entity’s collaboration is the culmination of the capabilities and potential of the drive within Filipino youth and their goal to make the world a better place. The group won the International Enthusiasm Award at the event.

UNISON was also notable during their Project-Based Learning (PBL) Expo held last June. In line with the theme Towards Forward-thinking Solutions, the group was guided by the question, “How can my game-changing ideas contribute to our country's socio-economic development?”

Mr. Francis Jacob Aragon, VP for Academics, says that iACADEMY’s PBL is relevant today. “It’s a PBL world out there. The students' training here at iACADEMY is a simulation of the outside world,” he says.
